Volunteer With Us

As a New York State Sickle Cell Advocacy Network, Inc. (NYSSCAN) volunteer, your distinctive skills are what makes a real difference when helping those in need. Our volunteer schedules are flexible. We do our best to match our volunteers with tasks that match their talents. Volunteering with NYSSCAN will be a rewarding learning experience that you will treasure for years to come.

Activities conducted here include connecting local sickle cell disease sufferers with programs and services, planning and coordinating fundraising activities and events, and promoting the sickle cell disease cause within the local community. As NYSSCAN Volunteer, you get to work on one or more of these tasks with a team of dedicated volunteers.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Data entry

  • Answer telephones, take messages, & make calls

  • Compile records/data and maintain files

  • On-line research

  • Letter writing

  • Assist in outreach activities

  • Aide in workshops

Special Events:

  • Help with registration

  • Help with set-up and break down

  • Help make calls to political officials, companies, organizations, & businesses to gain event support

  • Passing out fliers

  • Contacting prospective donors and/or vendors

Sickle Cell Family Support Services:

  • Hospital/home visits
